What is a Form HUD-50058 edit check?

A validation rule PIC applies to a submitted family record. Each has a numeric code, the section and field it applies to, HUD's own message, and a severity. This page lists every published edit with its code so you can look one up directly.

What is the difference between FATAL and WARNING?

A fatal edit rejects the record — it does not post until the underlying data is corrected and resubmitted. A warning posts but is flagged, and an accumulation of warnings is what a reviewer notices even though nothing was blocked.

Why does my record keep failing on the same code?

Usually because the edit is testing a value against something outside the record — a PHA code, a prior action, a date sequence — rather than the field it names. The section and field on each row tell you where the value lives; HUD's Technical Reference Guide page tells you what the check expects.

Form HUD-50058 is the family record a PHA submits to PIC for every admission, reexamination and action. PIC validates each submission against a published list of edit checks: a fatal edit rejects the record outright, a warning lets it through but flags it. Knowing which code means what is the difference between a same-day fix and a record that sits unsubmitted.

Common questions

What is a Form HUD-50058 edit check?: A validation rule PIC applies to a submitted family record. Each has a numeric code, the section and field it applies to, HUD's own message, and a severity. This page lists every published edit with its code so you can look one up directly.
What is the difference between FATAL and WARNING?: A fatal edit rejects the record — it does not post until the underlying data is corrected and resubmitted. A warning posts but is flagged, and an accumulation of warnings is what a reviewer notices even though nothing was blocked.
Why does my record keep failing on the same code?: Usually because the edit is testing a value against something outside the record — a PHA code, a prior action, a date sequence — rather than the field it names. The section and field on each row tell you where the value lives; HUD's Technical Reference Guide page tells you what the check expects.
