Honestkey™ was born from frustration, and a deep belief that renters deserve better than the status quo.
We've seen too many stories of families who signed leases they didn't fully understand, and paid the price.
It started with a simple observation: the rental market is fundamentally unbalanced. Property managers have teams of lawyers drafting their leases. Tenants have... Google and hope.
We watched friends lose security deposits over “normal wear and tear,” deductions that were completely illegal in their state. We saw families charged late fees that exceeded legal limits. We heard from first-time renters who signed away rights they didn't even know they had.
The lease agreement, often 20, 30, 40 pages of dense legal language, is supposed to protect both parties. But too often, it's designed to protect only one: the landlord.
